Muriel, hails from Ottawa, where she lived for over 55 years. As a highly successful businesswoman, she and her partner grew her Information Technology Consulting firm from 2 people to 350 consultants and 50 employees over a 25 year period.
After selling her company, Muriel and Claude decided to retire to a place that had a shorter, warmer winter. Niagara-on-the-Lake seemed the perfect location; anywhere known as the fruit basket of the country had to be warmer than Ottawa. Very soon, they made many friends in NOTL mostly, bridge players.
Muriel and Claude started playing duplicate bridge in 1999, the year they were married. They fell in love with the game, and have been involved in bridge organizations since 2002. Muriel has many interests including painting and gardening. More recently, cooking has become her new passion... and she loves to test new recipes on Claude. Certainly these times of Covid have given her plenty of time to try new things!

Like many, Wiebe became hooked on bridge by his wife. That was nearly forty years ago! Wiebe very quickly developed a passion for the complexity of the game, learning it through reading books by the pioneers of modern bridge such as Charles Goren, and becoming a Life Master soon thereafter. Back then, Wiebe’s work as technical auditor with the Ministry of Transportation took him throughout Ontario, and wherever possible to a local bridge club.
As Wiebe’s passion for bridge grew, he knew he wanted to be involved in the formal organization of the Bridge world and help others share his love of the game. This led him to become one of the founders of both the Bridge Centre of Niagara, and our Niagara Unit 255.
Wiebe, by his own admission, has a difficult time not being involved in bridge administration. Today, he is President of the Bridge Centre of Niagara, and is the Unit 255 liaison to the ACBL and to District 2.
Wiebe’s other interests include, well… playing more bridge… online… with the Dutch Bridge Association; for variety, of course. He is a keen gardener and especially enjoys his home grown vegetables and berries. Wiebe likes to travel throughout Europe, Canada and the US.
When Dena’s husband, Brian, was offered a work assignment in Shanghai, China, Dena and their two toddlers packed up and started on an international adventure that took them to China, Mexico and Singapore over a span of 25 years.
Dena enjoyed the challenges of raising a family and running a household in a foreign country. She persevered, studied the languages and the cultures of the countries; and during this time, Dena was introduced to Bridge.
In her earlier years, Dena was an accomplished Ice Dancer. She used her love of figure skating to help advance the youth by becoming a judge, and later by teaching Power Skating. Dena is an avid Scuba Diver, which has fuelled a passion the environment and ocean conservation. Professionally, Dena has degrees in Chemistry, and has worked in Sales and Marketing for large multinational chemical companies.
Although new to organized bridge and the ACBL, Dena has served on multiple committees and NGOs while living abroad. Today, along with Bridge, Dena enjoys cycling, hiking, photography, and cooking.
Kathy has been playing Bridge for 13 years. For many of those years, she has held a variety of positions with both the BCON and Unit 255 Boards acting as President, Club Manager, Treasurer and Membership Chair. Kathy brings to our Unit a great deal of expertise from her many years of experience as an Accountant, and her work in the Financial Industry.
Kathy and her husband are very blessed to have a large family with many grandchildren whom they see every Sunday at their regular family gatherings.
Claude is an ACBL accredited teacher and certified Bridge and Cruise Director, who has developed Bridge courses on 2/1, Defensive Play, and Play of the Hand. Additionally, Claude has developed training programs for Club Directors and ACBL Bridge Instructors.
Claude was instrumental in forming our Niagara Unit 255. Prior to that, he served on the ACBL Unit 192 Board of Directors for 3 years. Claude is an accomplished Sapphire Life Master with several National and Regional Tournament wins.
When not playing competitive Bridge, Claude loves to play Backgammon, “for blood,” and show off his creative talents, with his beautiful stained-glass art. Claude and his wife, Muriel, love to travel. Their highlight was a six-month cruise that took them to 47 countries as they travelled 50,0000 miles circumnavigating the World.
